For Woman's History Month, the team at Global Street Art voted to celebrate the work of young British-Bangladeshi activist Dr. Mya Rose Craig, aka Birdgirl, with a piece of female-powered public art in Euston Square. The stunning piece was designed in-house by artist Courtney Richards.

Global Street Art were incredibly inspired and in awe of how much Dr. Mya had already achieved as a prominent ornithologist, environmentalist, and diversity activist. At just 11 years old she started the popular blog Birdgirl, becoming the youngest person (at 17) to see half of the birds in the world. Dr. Mya is now also a published author, speaker and broadcaster. We decided to honour her and raise awareness of her achievements by transforming a mural site in a busy central London location.

Our talented in-house designer Courtney Richards was tasked with capturing the young activist, and began by researching Dr. Mya's favourite birds.

Courtney then designed the colourful mural to include beautiful birds drawn in her own expressive illustrative style. This perfectly complemented painter Elle Koziupa’s photorealism, creating a thought-provoking piece of art in the centre of London that not only celebrates the beauty of nature but also pays homage to the contributions of its subject.

"

I am so grateful and honoured that Global Street Art have painted this of me for Women's History Month this year as a woman environmental in environmental spaces. I was also super excited to spot my favourite birds on the wall: hummingbirds! Thank you to Courtney Richards and Elle Koziupa for your beautiful artwork!"
